So Much More: God Is Calling

Text: Nehemiah 1:1-11

The book of Nehemiah is the last historical book written in the Old Testament, roughly around 440 BC. It would be easy for us to read this book and conclude that we are reading simply about Jewish history, but anytime we are reading the narratives of Scripture, it is important for us to read them appropriately. This is more than just a historical record of facts, but a revelation of God that records how He was working among His people, in His people, through His people, and for His people that they might know Him and make Him known to the nations of the world. At first glance, it would be easy to conclude that the book is about the man it is named after, about the spiritual complacency of God’s people, or about the great building project the people accomplished. However, because of the power and mercy of God, this book is about “so much more” because it is all about how God is working and moving to accomplish great things in the lives of His people. According to Ephesians 3:20-21, God is still able to do “so much more” than we can ask or even imagine, but we must be willing to walk by faith and answer His call. Are you ready for the journey? We hope you will listen today and be challenged to trust God for the “so much more” that He has in store.
